Supplementary information

NUSAP1 also known as nucleolar spindle-associated protein 1 plays key role in cell division particularly in mitosis. It is located widely in the cell nucleus and gains its prominence during mitotic spindle assembly. With a molecular mass of about 55 kDa NUSAP1 is predominantly expressed in actively proliferating cells and has heightened expression in tissues with rapid cell division such as the thymus and bone marrow.
Biological function summary

NUSAP1 is significant in stabilizing microtubules and interacts with proteins like TPX2 to facilitate spindle formation. It binds to microtubules and augments their cross-linking and bundling influencing spindle dynamics. NUSAP1 does not work in isolation; it is a part of a larger complex that ensures proper chromosome segregation which is essential for accurate cell division.

Pathways

NUSAP1 is integral to the mitotic spindle assembly checkpoint an important part of the cell cycle. It associates with pathways such as the p53 signaling pathway which regulates cell division and growth. Within these pathways NUSAP1 interacts with proteins like AURKA and PLK1 marking its importance in maintaining DNA integrity and controlling mitotic events.

NUSAP1 has links to cancer especially in cases where cell proliferation is unregulated. Overexpression of NUSAP1 can lead to tumor progression making it a potential marker for cancer prognosis. Additionally disruptions in its function may tie to cell cycle disorders often connecting to proteins like MAD2L1 which also play roles in spindle checkpoint activities.
