The NXT1 protein also known as NTX1 or nuclear export transporter factor 1 is an essential part of cellular machinery. It has a molecular weight of approximately 17 kDa. Expressed ubiquitously in human tissues NXT1 plays a significant role in nuclear transport processes. The protein forms a critical component of the nuclear export pathway primarily involved in the transport of RNA molecules between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. This function requires a complex interaction with nuclear export signals and other proteins involved in export mechanisms.
