Growth regulator. Inhibits the proliferation of a number of tumor cell lines. It regulates cytokine production, including IL-6, G-CSF and GM-CSF from endothelial cells (By similarity). Oncostatin M (OSM) also known as Oncostatin M protein or OSM protein is a cytokine with significant roles in inflammation and hematopoiesis. This protein weighs around 28 kDa and is expressed mainly in activated T cells monocytes and macrophages. It interacts with specific receptors on the cell surface to transmit signals that regulate cell growth and function. Oncostatin M is part of the interleukin-6 (IL-6) family contributing to various cellular processes.
