Biological function summary
This protein plays a significant role in promoting bacterial adhesion and immune evasion. OspB forms part of a complex with other outer surface proteins such as OspA which cooperatively assists the bacteria to persist within the tick vector and mammalian host. By forming these protein complexes OspB contributes to the pathogen's ability to resist removal by host immune mechanisms facilitating long-term survival and transmission.

These interactions include the inhibition of the host's complement activation pathway an important process for immune defense.
