Activity summary

P2Y11 also known as P2RY11 or purinergic receptor P2Y G-protein coupled 11 is a receptor that belongs to the P2Y family of G-protein coupled receptors. This receptor is mainly involved in responding to extracellular nucleotides like ATP and UTP. The molecular mass of P2Y11 is approximately 42 kilodaltons. It is expressed in various tissues prominently in immune cells such as leukocytes and also in the heart and brain.

Biological function summary

P2Y11 acts as a critical signaling molecule influencing immune responses. It is part of the G-protein coupled receptor complex that mediates various cellular responses. Through its activation P2Y11 can regulate cytokine production which is significant for immune function. It also plays a role in modulating neurotransmitter release in the nervous system.

Pathways

Several signaling cascades involve P2Y11. The receptor is a part of the cyclic AMP (cAMP) pathway which is significant for multiple cellular functions including immunity and inflammation. P2Y11 also interacts with the MAPK/ERK pathway which affects cell division and differentiation. In these pathways it can function alongside proteins such as adenylate cyclase and phospholipase C.

Associated diseases and disorders

P2Y11 has an association with immune-related conditions. Some research links it to conditions like autoimmunity where it might affect immune cell signaling. Additionally there is evidence of its involvement in cardiac disorders such as arrhythmias due to its expression in heart tissue. In these contexts it interacts with proteins like interleukin receptors and cardiac ion channels making it a potential target for therapeutic strategies.
