Biological function summary
The targeted actions of Pan2 facilitate the regulation of mRNA stability which influences protein synthesis rates. Pan2 is part of the Pan2-Pan3 complex where it collaborates with Pan3 to catalyze the initial steps of deadenylation. This process is critical for normal cellular function affecting mRNA lifespan and its translation into protein. In this complex Pan2 provides the catalytic activity while Pan3 enhances its function and anchors the complex to the mRNA substrate.
Pathways
The function of Pan2 in mRNA degradation places it in the mRNA surveillance pathway and the general mRNA decay pathway. These pathways ensure proper regulation and quality control of mRNA within the cell. Pan2 works closely with the CCR4-NOT complex a significant player in mRNA deadenylation. These interactions allow for efficient control over gene expression by modulating the stability and availability of mRNA for translation.
