Supplementary information

PCDH11X also known as Protocadherin 11 X-linked is a protein encoded by the PCDH11X gene. It weighs around 170 kDa. This protein is expressed mainly in the brain with higher expression in cerebral cortices and hippocampus regions. PCDH11X belongs to the protocadherin family known for their role in cell adhesion. Mechanically it facilitates cell-cell interactions supporting neuronal connectivity and synapse formation.
Biological function summary

PCDH11X plays a critical role in neuronal development and differentiation. It engages in homophilic adhesion allowing neurons to communicate and establish complex networks. PCDH11X functions within synaptic junctions and contributes to maintaining neural circuitry. It often interacts with other protocadherins and is considered part of a larger adhesion protein complex which includes cadherins known to regulate cellular architecture.

Pathways

PCDH11X takes part in neural circuitry development and synaptic plasticity pathways. Notably it participates in the Wnt signaling pathway which is essential for neuronal patterning and connectivity. PCDH11X shares interaction with proteins such as beta-catenin which link cell adhesion molecules to the actin cytoskeleton further influencing signaling pathways related to neural morphogenesis.

PCDH11X shows relevance to neurodevelopmental disorders and mental health conditions like schizophrenia. Researchers notice alterations in PCDH11X expression linked to these conditions suggesting its importance in neuropsychiatric health. Additionally it is connected to the N-cadherin protein which also associates with cognitive disorders emphasizing its role in maintaining proper neural function.
