Biological function summary
PDE8B impacts several critical cellular processes due to its enzymatic role in cAMP degradation. It is a part of the phosphodiesterase enzyme family which includes 11 diverse families of phosphodiesterases. PDE8B's function supports cellular proliferation differentiation and apoptosis control by influencing cAMP levels within the cell. Its activity is not typically associated with any macromolecular complexes but it contributes to the broader regulatory network controlling cAMP-mediated signaling pathways.
Pathways
PDE8B participates in the cAMP signaling pathway which is vital for mediating the effects of neurotransmitters and hormones. The regulation of this pathway by PDE8B affects processes like energy homeostasis inflammation and neurotransmitter release. PDE8B interacts closely with other members of the phosphodiesterase family particularly PDE4 and PDE10 in fine-tuning the cAMP degradation and ensuring precise control of signal transduction.
