Activity summary

CD165 also known as AD2 or Ly6G is a protein involved in several mechanical processes in the human body. It is a member of the transmembrane proteins with an approximate mass of 38 kDa. This protein is actively expressed on a variety of cells including endothelial epithelial and some hematopoietic cells. CD165 is also prominent on activated T-cells and endothelial cells undergoing inflammation which points to its diverse roles in the immune and vascular systems.

Biological function summary

CD165 acts as an important player in cellular adhesion and migration essential for immune responses. It is part of a larger complex interacting with integrins which aids in cell trafficking and signaling. This protein facilitates the binding of leukocytes to the vascular endothelium an important step during immune surveillance and inflammation. Through these interactions CD165 also influences cellular responses to external stimuli contributing to the dynamic nature of cellular activity.

Pathways

CD165 functions in the regulation of immune and inflammation processes. It plays roles in the leukocyte transendothelial migration pathway important for allowing immune cells to move through the blood vessel walls to sites of inflammation. CD165 is connected to integrins which are vital for cell adhesion and signal transduction processes. Additionally CD165 also interacts within the chemokine signaling pathway involving a collaboration with various chemokines and receptors to modulate immune responses.

Associated diseases and disorders

CD165 is associated with diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and certain cancers. It may contribute to the pathology of rheumatoid arthritis by facilitating the infiltration of immune cells into synovial tissues promoting inflammation and joint damage. In cancer CD165 may influence tumor metastasis due to its role in cell adhesion and migration often linking with integrins to enable tumor cell spread. These connections make CD165 a potential target for therapeutic interventions for immune-related disorders and metastatic cancers.
