Biological function summary
PI3R6 contributes to cellular signaling processes particularly those that dictate cell growth proliferation and survival. It forms a complex with the catalytic subunit of the PI3K gamma known as p110 gamma. This regulatory subunit coordinates the localization and activity of the catalytic subunit which in turn converts phosphatidylinositol (45)-bisphosphate (PIP2) to phosphatidylinositol (345)-trisphosphate (PIP3) a critical secondary messenger involved in signal transduction pathways.
Pathways
PI3R6 plays an integral role in the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway which is central to many cellular processes like metabolism growth and survival. Within this pathway it closely interacts with proteins such as AKT1. Additionally PI3R6 is also involved in the immune response through the regulation of leukocyte chemotaxis and integrin-dependent cell migration which it performs by influencing the signaling functions of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs).
