Biological function summary
PIP5K1A influences the production of PI(45)P2 an important phosphoinositide involved in numerous cellular functions. PI(45)P2 acts as a substrate for the production of secondary messengers like inositol trisphosphate (IP3) and diacylglycerol (DAG) essential in signal transduction pathways. PIP5K1A is part of a larger protein complex interacting with cytoskeletal elements and regulators of endocytosis and exocytosis. This association highlights its importance in maintaining cellular compartmentalization and function.
Pathways
PIP5K1A plays a pivotal role in the phosphoinositide signaling pathway and the actin cytoskeleton regulation pathway. It works closely with proteins such as RAC1 a small GTPase involved in actin polymerization to facilitate changes in the cell structure and motility. Additionally PIP5K1A's product PI(45)P2 serves as a precursor for multiple signaling molecules integrating with pathways that mediate cellular responses to various extracellular stimuli.
