Researchers find Rab-6 expressed in various tissues with high levels in the brain and lungs. It localizes primarily to the Golgi apparatus where it participates in the regulation of intracellular transport.
Biological function summary

Rab-6 aids in the coordination of retrograde vesicle transport from the Golgi to the endoplasmic reticulum. Rab-6 functions as part of a complex with other proteins including dynactin and cytoplasmic dynein to facilitate these movements. Its role includes ensuring proper delivery and sorting of proteins within the cell which is essential for maintaining cellular organization and function.

Pathways

This protein is involved in the endocytosis and secretory pathways. In the endocytosis pathway Rab-6 interacts with proteins like Rab GDI and Rab escort protein to regulate vesicle transport. Additionally altered Rab-6 activity can contribute to cancer metastasis through interactions with metastasis-related proteins which influences cell migration and invasion mechanisms.
