Biological function summary
RAB4B mediates the sorting and recycling of receptors from the early endosome back to the plasma membrane or to other cellular destinations. As a member of the Rab protein family it often associates with protein complexes that include its effectors and other small GTPases. This network facilitates its role in maintaining cellular homeostasis and contributing to the traffic of cargo proteins to their intended cellular compartments.
Pathways
RAB4B is a significant participant in pathways such as the endocytosis pathway and receptor recycling. In these pathways it closely interacts with other proteins like RAB11A and RAB5 where they coordinate functions in sorting and recycling of endocytic vesicles. RAB4B assists in transitioning cargo from early endosomes to recycling endosomes or returning them to the cell surface therefore impacting cellular signal transduction and nutrient uptake.
