Supplementary information

RABGAP1 also known as Rab GTPase-activating protein 1 plays a significant role in regulating the activity of Rab proteins by promoting GTP hydrolysis to GDP. This regulation alters the Rab's affinity for membranes and their associated regulators and effectors. RABGAP1 has a mass of approximately 77 kDa and is functionally expressed in a range of tissues including those of the brain and pancreas indicating its importance in various cellular processes.
Biological function summary

RABGAP1 interacts with cellular components to modulate vesicular trafficking and membrane dynamics. It acts as a negative regulator in processes involving endocytosis and secretion by interfering in the Rab GTPase signaling cycle. This protein is not necessarily part of a larger multiprotein complex but works closely with members of the Rab family proteins. Through its activity RABGAP1 ensures accuracy in the transportation and sorting of cellular materials.

Pathways

RABGAP1 is involved in the regulation of the intracellular trafficking pathways particularly those linked with endocytosis and secretory routes. It functions in pathways associated with Rab GTPases influencing cellular processes such as vesicle budding and transport. This involvement places RABGAP1 in close functional association with proteins like Rab1 and Rab5 which are essential for membrane trafficking events and maintaining cellular organization.

Dysfunction of RABGAP1 is associated with alterations in cellular transport mechanisms which could contribute to diseases such as cancer and neurological disorders. Aberrant activity or expression levels of RABGAP1 may lead to the misregulation of protein trafficking therefore influencing cancer metastasis or neuronal pathologies. It may interact with other proteins related to these disorders such as Rab11 highlighting its role in the broader context of disease mechanisms.
