Rap2A Rap2B and Rap2C are part of the Ras-related protein subfamily often called small GTPases. These proteins act as molecular switches that cycle between active GTP-bound and inactive GDP-bound states. The mass of these proteins is approximately 21 kilodaltons each. They are expressed in various tissues including the brain where they participate in signaling pathways critical for cellular communication. The three proteins share similarities in structure and function yet have unique roles in their specific cellular contexts.
Biological function summary

Rap2A Rap2B and Rap2C are involved in regulating cell migration adhesion and morphogenesis. As GTPases they interact with downstream effectors to modulate cytoskeletal dynamics and vesicle trafficking. These proteins are not part of a single complex but work collaboratively with various signaling proteins to transmit signals from the cell surface to the interior.

Pathways

Rap2 proteins play a role in the MAPK/ERK and PI3K/Akt signaling pathways. These pathways are important for cell growth survival and differentiation.
