Supplementary information

RBM6 also known as RNA binding motif protein 6 plays a significant role in RNA binding activities. It exhibits a molecular mass of approximately 94 kDa. This protein is expressed in a variety of tissues with higher expression levels observed in the lung and brain. RBM6 contains several RNA recognition motifs that facilitate its involvement in the regulation of RNA processing including splicing stability and transport.
Biological function summary

RNA binding motif protein 6 contributes to the regulation of gene expression by interacting with specific RNA sequences. It often functions as part of a larger ribonucleoprotein complex. Through its interactions RBM6 influences alternative splicing events which modify mRNA precursors to create diverse protein isoforms. This activity is essential for the cellular response to different physiological conditions and RBM6 has been implicated in cell cycle regulation and apoptosis.

Pathways

RNA binding motif protein 6 is involved in several important cellular processes. It is an important component of the splicing machinery and participates in the spliceosome pathway interacting with other splicing factors like SF3B1 and SRSF2. Additionally RBM6 has links to the RNA transport pathway influencing the export of mature mRNAs from the nucleus to the cytoplasm where translation occurs.

Alterations in RNA binding motif protein 6 can impact oncogenesis and neurological conditions. Abnormal expression of RBM6 has been observed in certain cancers such as lung cancer where it may cooperate with or have effects opposite to tumor suppressor proteins like RBM5. Furthermore mutations or dysregulation of RBM6 might affect neural development or function suggesting a possible connection to neurodegenerative disorders where it could interact with genes involved in neuronal survival and degeneration.
