Supplementary information

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

RBP2 also known as KDM5A or Lysine Demethylase 5A functions as a histone demethylase enzyme specific for H3K4me3 and H3K4me2. With a mass of about 175 kDa it influences chromatin structure by removing methyl groups from histones which affects gene transcription. This protein expresses in various tissues especially in those with rapid cell division such as embryonic stem cells and certain cancer cell lines.
Biological function summary

RBP2 contributes to the regulation of gene expression by modifying chromatin accessibility. It forms part of transcriptional complexes that involve other chromatin-remodeling proteins. Through its demethylase activity RBP2 regulates the transcriptional response to different cellular signals and contributes to processes like cell cycle progression and differentiation.

Pathways

RBP2 plays a significant role in chromatin organization and transcriptional regulation pathways. RBP2 interacts closely with other chromatin-modifying proteins such as the Polycomb group of proteins impacting the Rb-E2F pathway involved in cell cycle control. This interaction influences whether cells proceed to division or undergo differentiation making it essential for maintaining proper cell growth and development.

RBP2 has connections to cancer and developmental disorders. Its abnormal expression often associates with various cancers including leukemia and breast cancer contributing to uncontrolled cell proliferation and tumor growth. In these contexts RBP2 may interact with proteins like pRB and E2F which are important in cell cycle regulation highlighting its importance in cancer biology. Additionally mutations in RBP2 can result in developmental abnormalities further highlighting its critical role in normal cellular processes.
