RELL1 also known as RELT-like 1 is part of the tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR) superfamily. It plays a role in signal transduction specifically in mediating survival and apoptotic signals. The protein has a molecular weight of approximately 40 kDa. It is expressed in various tissues including the lung liver spleen and immune-related cells such as T and B lymphocytes.
RELL1 contributes to immune system regulation by interacting with other TNFR family members and modulating signaling pathways that influence cell death and survival. It often engages in forming receptor-ligand complexes to execute its function. The protein's activity may affect processes such as inflammation and immune responses.
The TNF signaling and NF-kappaB pathways are relevant to RELL1. These pathways are critical for transmitting signals that lead to either cell survival or apoptosis. RELL1 interacts with proteins such as TRAF2 and TRAF3 which are instrumental in mediating downstream signaling events within these pathways.
