Biological function summary
RFC5 plays an important role in coordinating the proper functioning of the DNA replication machinery. It is part of the larger RFC complex which comprises five subunits working in concert to load the proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) onto DNA strands. This loading action is fundamental to the process of DNA synthesis ensuring that DNA polymerases can operate effectively. By collaborating with other components of the replication machinery RFC5 ensures accuracy and efficiency during cell division.
Pathways
RFC5 participates in DNA replication and repair pathways. It is closely linked with the DNA damage response pathway where it associates with the PCNA and other replication factors such as polymerase δ and polymerase ε. Through these interactions RFC5 helps initiate and sustain the replication fork stability and repair mechanisms important for genomic integrity.
