Supplementary information

RG9MTD2 also known as tRNA (guanine-N(7)-)-methyltransferase is an enzyme involved in modifying guanine bases at the N7 position in tRNA molecules. This enzyme has a molecular mass of approximately 25 kDa. It is mostly expressed in the cytoplasm where it participates in the post-transcriptional modification of tRNA a critical step for proper protein translation and function.
Biological function summary

The enzyme functions by catalyzing the methyl transfer from S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) to guanine in tRNA assisting in the stabilizing of tRNA structure and enhancing its functional efficiency. RG9MTD2 acts within a complex network of other enzymes that ensure proper tRNA maturation. By influencing the structural integrity of tRNA RG9MTD2 plays an essential role in maintaining cellular homeostasis and protein synthesis fidelity.

Pathways

The enzyme is actively involved in the methylation pathway that modifies tRNA molecules an important process in the RNA processing pathway. It interacts with other tRNA-modifying enzymes like TRMT10C and NSUN2 which participate in the regulation of tRNA structure and function. RG9MTD2's activity closely ties into the broader cellular pathways like translation and protein biosynthesis ensuring the accurate expression of genetic information.

RG9MTD2 mutations or dysregulation can relate to tRNA-associated disorders such as some forms of mitochondrial encephalomyopathy. The enzyme's role in maintaining tRNA stability can affect proteins involved in other disorders linking it to a broader understanding of genetic diseases. Variants in genes encoding tRNA methyltransferases have associations with neurological disorders highlighting the importance of RG9MTD2 in the context of genetic stability and disease.
