Biological function summary
RGS20 modulates signal transduction by accelerating the deactivation of G-proteins which plays an important role in regulating GPCR signaling. It associates with G-beta and G-gamma forming a complex that allows for more efficient signal regulation. The activity of RGS20 is vital in neuronal signaling processes within the brain contributing to regulation of neurotransmitter release and synaptic plasticity.
Pathways
RGS20 influences several G-protein mediated pathways such as the cAMP signaling pathway and the MAPK pathway. It interacts with the G-alpha subunits like G-alpha i and G-alpha q influencing the pathways' duration and intensity. RGS20's regulation of these pathways affects various cellular responses including cell growth and differentiation.
