Fluorescein alternatively known as fluoresceine or resorcinol phthalein is a synthetic compound with a molecular mass of approximately 332.31 g/mol. This organic dye is widely used in science and medicine due to its intense fluorescence. Typically fluorescein is expressed in environments where a fluorescent marker is valuable such as in imaging applications. As a small highly fluorescent molecule it can easily bind to different biomolecules. In the context of the commercial world you may encounter the term anti-fluorescein referring to antibodies developed specifically against fluorescein to enhance detection or removal from samples.
Biological function summary

Fluorescein functions as a non-invasive marker that can bind to proteins such as biotin without altering their biological properties. This feature of fluorescein allows it to participate in biotin fluorescence systems aiding in the visualization of proteins or nucleic acids.
