RNF144A also known as IBRDC3 or MUL1 is an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase with an approximate mass of 32 kDa. It plays an important role in tagging proteins with ubiquitin molecules marking them for degradation via the proteasome system. RNF144A comprises RING finger domains which facilitate its ligase activity. This protein expresses in a variety of tissues including the heart brain and liver among others. It interacts directly with substrates to ensure protein homeostasis which is important for cellular function.
Biological function summary

RNF144A influences cellular processes like apoptosis and cell proliferation. It is known to be a component of protein complexes involved in the regulation of these processes. By targeting specific proteins for degradation RNF144A helps control cellular growth and death signals which is essential in maintaining cellular equilibrium. Its activity can impact the levels of pro-apoptotic and anti-apoptotic factors which then influences the fate of the cell.

E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase which accepts ubiquitin from E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes UBE2L3 and UBE2L6 in the form of a thioester and then directly transfers the ubiquitin to targeted substrates (PubMed : 26216882). Mediates the ubiquitination and degradation of the DNA damage kinase PRKDC during DNA damage (PubMed : 24979766). Positively regulates DNA virus or exogenous cytosolic DNA-triggered innate immune response by mediating STING1 ubiquitination and increasing its 'Lys-6'-linked ubiquitination and translocation from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi leading to downstream signaling pathways (PubMed : 37955227). Plays a positive role in EGF-dependent cell proliferation by prolonging EGF/EGFR signaling during EGF stimulation through EGFR ubiquitination (PubMed : 30171075).
