Supplementary information

The RPL14 protein also known as ribosomal protein L14 plays an important role in the ribosomal 60S subunit which is essential for protein synthesis. This protein has a molecular weight of around 15 kDa and is primarily expressed in the cytoplasm. As a component of the ribosome RPL14 contributes to the structure and stability of ribosomal RNA facilitating the translation process.
Biological function summary

Ribosomal protein L14 integrates into the large ribosomal subunit participating in the assembly of the ribosome complex. RPL14 binds to 28S rRNA and contributes to the ribosome’s ability to accurately synthesize proteins. It works alongside other ribosomal proteins and RNA to ensure efficient translation of messenger RNA (mRNA) into proteins impacting cell growth and proliferation.

Pathways

RPL14 has significant involvement in the translation pathway critical for genetic expression and protein synthesis. It interacts with other ribosomal proteins within the translation machinery such as RPL5 and RPL11 to facilitate the binding of the aminoacyl-tRNA to the ribosome. In the context of the mTOR signaling pathway RPL14 potentially influences cell growth and metabolism by regulating protein synthesis rates.

The dysfunction of ribosomal protein L14 associates with certain ribosomopathies which are disorders caused by ribosomal dysfunction. Mutations or altered expression of RPL14 can also relate to cancer where deregulated protein synthesis contributes to uncontrolled cell proliferation. The interaction of RPL14 with other ribosomal proteins like RPL11 suggests its involvement in the maintenance of genomic integrity further linking it to disease states characterized by disrupted cellular homeostasis.
