Supplementary information

RPL35 also known as Ribosomal Protein L35 plays an essential role in ribosome function. It is a component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit and has a molecular mass of around 13.4 kDa. RPL35 exhibits widespread expression in human tissues suggesting it is necessary for general protein synthesis functions across different cell types.
Biological function summary

The function of RPL35 contributes to the formation and stability of the ribosome which is a complex structure composed of ribosomal RNA and ribosomal proteins. RPL35's integration into the ribosome assists in the assembly of new proteins by ensuring correct translation. This integration is necessary for maintaining the efficiency and accuracy of protein synthesis within cells playing an important role in cell growth and proliferation.

Pathways

The activity of RPL35 influences the mRNA translation pathway and connects closely to the protein biosynthesis process. Through its interaction with the ribosomal machinery it also relates to the mTOR signaling pathway which is significant for cell growth regulation. Proteins like RPLP0 and RPLP1 are associated with RPL35 within these pathways supporting a robust translation and protein synthesis network.

Mutations and dysregulation of RPL35 relate to disorders like Diamond-Blackfan anemia and some cancers. These conditions link to the disruption in ribosome biogenesis or function which leads to faulty protein synthesis. In Diamond-Blackfan anemia abnormal function of RPL35 along with other ribosomal proteins such as RPL5 disrupts normal erythropoiesis resulting in anemia.
