Supplementary information

RPL37 also known as ribosomal protein L37 is a component of the 60S subunit of eukaryotic ribosomes. The protein possesses a molecular mass of approximately 11 kDa. It is expressed in various tissues throughout the body and plays a fundamental role in protein synthesis. RPL37 binds to rRNA and is involved in the assembly and structural stability of the ribosomal unit facilitating the translation process during protein expression.
Biological function summary

Ribosomal protein L37 is essential in the formation and function of ribosome complexes. It is part of the large ribosomal subunit that contributes to stabilizing the interactions between the rRNA and the mRNA-tRNA complex during translation. The precise positioning of these molecules by RPL37 helps ensure accurate decoding of mRNA into polypeptide chains highlighting its role in efficient protein production within cells.

Pathways

RPL37 is implicated in the intricate mechanics of the ribosomal biogenesis and translation pathways. Within these pathways it cooperates with other ribosomal proteins such as RPL5 and RPL10 which also form part of the large ribosomal subunit. Together they enable the step-wise assembly and function of ribosomes ultimately impacting cellular growth and proliferation through protein synthesis.

Mutations or dysregulation of RPL37 can relate to various conditions such as cancer and Diamond-Blackfan anemia. In cancer aberrant expression of RPL37 has been connected to altered ribosome function impacting cell cycle progression and growth. Additionally in Diamond-Blackfan anemia RPL37 mutations can associate with disturbed ribosomal biogenesis leading to insufficient erythrocyte production. Associated proteins such as RPL11 and RPL15 may also show altered expression in these conditions further complicating the cellular environment.
