Supplementary information

RPP25 also known as Ribonuclease P/MRP 25 kDa subunit is a protein with an approximate mass of 25 kDa. It plays an important mechanical role in the cellular environment as part of the ribonuclease P and ribonuclease MRP complexes. These complexes are key for the cleavage of precursor RNAs. RPP25 is expressed broadly with presence noted in most human tissues which suggests its functional importance in various cellular processes.
Biological function summary

RPP25 functions as an essential part of ribonucleoprotein complexes that include ribonuclease P and ribonuclease MRP. These complexes are involved in the maturation of tRNA and rRNA respectively highlighting RPP25's role in RNA processing. As a component of these ribonucleases RPP25 works alongside other proteins such as RPP30 and POP1 helping to perform critical RNA processing tasks within the cell.

Pathways

The involvement of RPP25 in the RNA processing pathway demonstrates its importance alongside other proteins. In particular it takes part in the maturation of tRNA within the tRNA biosynthesis pathway. This process is critical for proper translation and protein synthesis. RPP25 also interacts within the rRNA processing pathway where it contributes to the generation of mature ribosomal RNA a necessity for the formation of functional ribosomes.

Mutations or dysregulation of RPP25 are linked to ribosomopathies and possibly certain cancers. For example abnormal expression levels might have connections to Diamond-Blackfan anemia a disorder arising from defects in ribosomal function. In this context RPP25 may interact with proteins like RPL5 which is also associated with ribosomal biogenesis and linked diseases pointing to a potential pathway for therapeutic exploration.

Target data

Component of ribonuclease P, a ribonucleoprotein complex that generates mature tRNA molecules by cleaving their 5'-ends (PubMed : 12003489, PubMed : 16723659, PubMed : 30454648). Also a component of the MRP ribonuclease complex, which cleaves pre-rRNA sequences (PubMed : 28115465).
