Supplementary information

RPS7 also known as Ribosomal Protein S7 plays an important role in protein synthesis as a component of the ribosome. It is a structural protein with a mass of approximately 22 kDa and is expressed ubiquitously across different tissues. Within the ribosome RPS7 belongs to the small 40S subunit where it works alongside other ribosomal proteins and rRNA to contribute to the assembly and function of the ribosome during translation.
Biological function summary

RPS7 facilitates the translation process by stabilizing rRNA and ensuring correct assembly of the ribosomal subunits. As one of the ribosomal proteins it is essential for maintaining ribosome integrity and function within the ribosomal complex. Through interactions with rRNA and other ribosomal proteins RPS7 aids in the translational accuracy and efficiency ultimately influencing protein synthesis rates in cells.

Pathways

RPS7 participates importantly in the translation machinery within cells. It forms part of the ribosome which serves as a central platform for the mRNA translation pathway. As an integral component of ribosomal pathways RPS7 interacts with other key proteins like RPL and EIF families which assist in translation initiation elongation and termination processes. The involvement of RPS7 in these pathways supports cellular protein homeostasis and gene expression regulation.

RPS7 has been linked to Diamond-Blackfan anemia a condition characterized by defective ribosomal protein production leading to bone marrow failure. Mutations in RPS7 and similar ribosomal proteins such as RPS19 impact ribosome biogenesis disrupting normal erythropoiesis and causing anemia. Additionally upregulation of RPS7 has been observed in some cancers where altered protein synthesis contributes to tumorigenesis and tumor growth.

Target data

Component of the small ribosomal subunit (PubMed : 23636399). The ribosome is a large ribonucleoprotein complex responsible for the synthesis of proteins in the cell (PubMed : 23636399). Required for rRNA maturation (PubMed : 19061985). Part of the small subunit (SSU) processome, first precursor of the small eukaryotic ribosomal subunit. During the assembly of the SSU processome in the nucleolus, many ribosome biogenesis factors, an RNA chaperone and ribosomal proteins associate with the nascent pre-rRNA and work in concert to generate RNA folding, modifications, rearrangements and cleavage as well as targeted degradation of pre-ribosomal RNA by the RNA exosome (PubMed : 34516797).
