Biological function summary
Protein S2 is one of the essential components of the ribosome. It is not part of any multiprotein complex beyond the ribosome itself. Its main function is to contribute to the accurate translation of mRNA into a polypeptide chain during protein synthesis. This process is fundamental for cell growth and proliferation and any malfunction in 30S ribosomal protein S2 can impact cellular function and maintenance.
Pathways
The protein S2 is important in the translation pathway which is central to the overall process of gene expression. In this pathway it works closely with other ribosomal proteins and ribosomal RNAs to ensure proper translation initiation elongation and termination resulting in effective protein biosynthesis. It functions alongside other proteins like the 50S ribosomal subunit protein L10 to facilitate the assembly and stability of the ribosome.
