SCHIP1 also known as Schwannomin interacting protein 1 is a protein with a mass of approximately 80 kDa. SCHIP1 interacts with the cytoskeleton through binding to neurofibromin 2 (NF2) also called merlin. It is highly expressed in neuronal tissues including the brain and spinal cord. The protein localizes to the cytoplasm and cytoskeletal structures suggesting a role in maintaining cellular structure and integrity.
Biological function summary

SCHIP1 regulates cytoskeletal dynamics and influences cell adhesion and signaling. The protein interacts with actin filament networks contributing to cellular morphology and structural regulation. SCHIP1 forms part of a larger complex involving NF2 and influences actin reorganization. This complex plays an essential role in cellular processes such as motility and division which are critical for the development and function of the nervous system.

Pathways

SCHIP1 significantly impacts the Hippo signaling pathway. This pathway is critical for regulating cell growth proliferation and apoptosis. SCHIP1 interacts with other proteins in the Hippo pathway including YAP and TAZ transcriptional coactivators modulating their activity and subsequent gene expression effects. Moreover through its association with NF2 SCHIP1 influences pathways linked to tumor suppression further highlighting its role in cell cycle regulation.
