Supplementary information

SDS3 also known as SAP30 binding protein (SAP30BP) is a protein with a molecular weight of about 46 kDa. This protein is expressed in various tissues notably in the nucleus of cells. Mechanically SDS3 functions as a transcriptional regulator playing an essential role in chromatin remodeling and gene expression. It is a part of histone deacetylase complexes where it helps modulate the structural conformation of chromatin affecting DNA accessibility.
Biological function summary

SDS3 exerts important roles by being a component of the Sin3a corepressor complex. This complex is responsible for the repression of transcription through histone modification specifically deacetylation which leads to chromatin condensation. In this way SDS3 contributes to silencing specific genes which can influence cell differentiation and proliferation. Its interactions within the complex contribute to the regulation of diverse genes vital for cellular homeostasis.

Pathways

SDS3's interactions intervene in the transcriptional repression pathways and cell cycle regulation pathways. Involvement in these pathways showcases its role in maintaining proper cell division and controlling gene expression timing. SDS3 is closely related to other proteins like histone deacetylases HDAC1 and HDAC2 which participate in deacetylation activities that repress transcription and modify chromatin structure to restrict gene accessibility.

SDS3 has been linked to various cancers due to its role in regulating genes that control cell proliferation and survival. Abnormal expression or function of SDS3 can lead to inappropriate transcriptional repression of tumor suppressor genes contributing to unchecked cell growth. Additionally SDS3 is associated with neurodegenerative disorders due to its role in gene expression regulation in neural cells. In these conditions SDS3 may interact with other proteins such as SIN3A and RBBP4 further impacting gene expression profiles.

Target data

Regulatory protein which represses transcription and augments histone deacetylase activity of HDAC1. May have a potential role in tumor suppressor pathways through regulation of apoptosis. May function in the assembly and/or enzymatic activity of the mSin3A corepressor complex or in mediating interactions between the complex and other regulatory complexes.
