The Sarcoplasmic/Endoplasmic Reticulum Calcium ATPase 3 commonly known as SERCA3 ATPase plays an important role in calcium transport across the cell membrane. This protein with a mass of approximately 104 kDa facilitates the movement of calcium ions from the cytosol into the sarcoplasmic and endoplasmic reticulum relying on ATP hydrolysis for energy. SERCA3 is expressed in various tissues including endothelium and epithelial cells where it contributes to maintaining calcium homeostasis.
SERCA3 ATPase influences cellular calcium signaling impacting several processes such as muscle contraction and cell proliferation. It functions as part of the ATPase family that is heavily involved in calcium ion regulation. SERCA3 works in conjunction with other calcium-binding proteins and calcium channels to ensure precise control over intracellular calcium levels which is critical for normal cellular activities.
Several molecular mechanisms involve SERCA3 ATPase such as calcium signaling pathways and the regulation of muscle contraction process. This ATPase works closely with proteins such as calmodulin and phospholamban within these pathways to modulate calcium ion concentration and muscle function. Its efficient operation ensures the proper activation and relaxation of muscle cells highlighting its significance in specific bodily functions.
