This protein with a mass of approximately 104 kDa facilitates the movement of calcium ions from the cytosol into the sarcoplasmic and endoplasmic reticulum relying on ATP hydrolysis for energy. SERCA3 is expressed in various tissues including endothelium and epithelial cells where it contributes to maintaining calcium homeostasis.
