Supplementary information

The SEZ6L protein also known as Seizure 6-like protein weighs approximately 130 kDa. It is member of a family linked to neuronal development and function. SEZ6L expresses in diverse tissues most notably in the brain and pancreas. The protein localizes mainly within the cell and at the plasma membrane indicating its involvement in signaling processes critical for cellular communication.
Biological function summary

SEZ6L serves important roles in synaptic function and neuronal connectivity. The protein participates in synapse formation by interacting with other cell adhesion molecules. SEZ6L also influences dendritic growth affecting the brain's ability to form and maintain neural circuits. It does not typically integrate into large protein complexes functioning instead as part of dynamic networks with specific partners in synaptic regions.

Pathways

SEZ6L engages in signaling cascades vital to neurodevelopment and synapse maintenance. In the MAPK/ERK pathway it interacts with proteins that facilitate neuronal proliferation and differentiation. SEZ6L is also involved in the neurotrophic receptor signaling pathway where it collaborates with proteins such as NTRK2 to enhance neuronal survival and plasticity. These interactions highlight its significant role in maintaining normal brain function.

SEZ6L links with various neurological conditions especially schizophrenia and autism spectrum disorders. Aberrations in SEZ6L expression or function can disrupt neural communication leading to the symptoms observed in these conditions. Moreover the protein is associated with the DISC1 protein which also ties to schizophrenia indicating a shared pathway potentially contributing to the pathophysiology of these disorders.
