Product details

ab249741 is the carrier-free version of ab172971.

Patented technology
Our RabMAb® technology is a patented hybridoma-based technology for making rabbit monoclonal antibodies. For details on our patents, please refer to RabMAb® patents.

What are the advantages of a recombinant monoclonal antibody?
This product is a recombinant monoclonal antibody, which offers several advantages including:

  • - High batch-to-batch consistency and reproducibility
  • - Improved sensitivity and specificity
  • - Long-term security of supply
  • - Animal-free batch production

For more information, read more on recombinant antibodies.

Conjugation ready
Our carrier-free antibodies are typically supplied in a PBS-only formulation, purified and free of BSA, sodium azide and glycerol. This conjugation-ready format is designed for use with fluorochromes, metal isotopes, oligonucleotides, and enzymes, which makes them ideal for antibody labelling, functional and cell-based assays, flow-based assays (e.g. mass cytometry) and Multiplex Imaging applications.

Use our conjugation kits for antibody conjugates that are ready-to-use in as little as 20 minutes with 1 minute hands-on-time and 100% antibody recovery: available for fluorescent dyes, HRP, biotin and gold.

Compatibility
This product is compatible with the Maxpar® Antibody Labeling Kit from Fluidigm, without the need for antibody preparation. Maxpar® is a trademark of Fluidigm Canada Inc.

Supplementary information

Sideroflexin 5 commonly known as SFXN5 is a protein that acts mechanically as an inner mitochondrial membrane transporter. It belongs to the sideroflexin family of proteins and has a molecular weight of approximately 35 kDa. SFXN5 shows expression in various tissues including the heart brain and skeletal muscle reflecting its important function in cellular metabolism and energy production.
Biological function summary

SFXN5 contributes to the regulation of mitochondrial iron homeostasis and amino acid metabolism. This protein integrates into a larger complex involved in the translocation of specific substrates across the mitochondrial membrane. By modulating iron levels within mitochondria SFXN5 assists in maintaining cellular iron balance which is necessary for proper mitochondrial function and energy bioavailability.

Pathways

SFXN5 exerts influence on the heme synthesis and iron-sulfur cluster pathways. The transportation and regulation functions of SFXN5 relate closely to these pathways supporting the synthesis of heme groups and iron-sulfur clusters that are essential for numerous enzymatic processes. SFXN5 works in connection with proteins like frataxin and mitoferrin which also play roles in iron regulation and mitochondrial function.

SFXN5 has relevance to conditions like neurodegenerative diseases and anemia. Abnormalities in iron transport and homeostasis within mitochondria can contribute to the pathogenesis of these disorders. Proteins involved in related pathways such as ferritin and transferrin further connect with SFXN5 and are significant in understanding disease mechanisms involving disrupted iron metabolism. Understanding SFXN5's role in these contexts could offer insights into potential therapeutic approaches.

Target data

Mitochondrial amino-acid transporter (By similarity). Transports citrate (By similarity). Does not act as a serine transporter : not able to mediate transport of serine into mitochondria (By similarity) (PubMed : 30442778). In brown adipose tissue, plays a role in the regulation of UCP1-dependent thermogenesis probably by supporting mitochondrial glycerol-3-phosphate utilization (By similarity).
