Biological function summary
SHLD1 participates as a component of the shieldin complex alongside SHLD2 SHLD3 and REV7. Together these proteins facilitate the repair of DNA double-strand breaks by directing 53BP1-mediated NHEJ. This complex stabilizes the DNA ends and assists in their processing which prevents excessive resection and promotes the proper end-joining process. SHLD1's role contributes significantly to maintaining genomic integrity.
Pathways
SHLD1 integrates within the DNA damage response specifically the NHEJ pathway. This pathway is important for fixing double-strand breaks and involves several other proteins like KU70 KU80 DNA-PKcs and 53BP1.
