Supplementary information

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

SLK also known as Ste20-like kinase or STLK3 is a serine/threonine-protein kinase. It shows mechanical activity through phosphorylation of specific substrates facilitating cellular processes like migration and proliferation. SLK has an approximate mass of 140 kDa and predominantly occurs in various tissues including epithelial and neural tissues. Its expression is regulated by multiple factors contributing to its dynamic functional role in cells.
Biological function summary

SLK plays an essential role in regulating cytoskeletal organization and cell motility allowing rearrangement of actin fibers. It operates as part of a complex involved in signal transduction cascades that influence cellular shape and movement. This kinase modulates pathways important for cell cycle progression and apoptosis affecting cellular dynamics and integrity.

Pathways

SLK is integral to both the Rho and MAPK signaling pathways which are fundamental for cellular stress responses and growth signals. Within these pathways SLK interacts with proteins such as MINK1 and TAO1 contributing to the coordination of cellular responses to environmental changes and stress signals. SLK's role supports critical intracellular communications that decide cellular fate and adaptation processes.

SLK associates with cancer particularly in cases involving abnormal cell migration and metastasis. It interacts with proteins like the focal adhesion kinase (FAK) which strengthens its participation in oncogenic pathways. SLK also has links to neurodegenerative diseases where its deregulation affects cell survival and death pathways influencing disease progression due to its involvement with proteins like caspase-3 in apoptotic processes.
