Sohlh2 also known as Spermatogenesis and Oogenesis-specific basic Helix-Loop-Helix 2 is a transcription factor with a molecular mass of about 32 kDa. It is expressed in reproductive tissues notably in the ovaries and testes. Sohlh2 plays a mechanical role by binding to specific DNA sequences regulating the expression of genes essential for germ cell development. This protein influences the differentiation and function of cells critical for reproduction.
Sohlh2 influences germline specification and is key for both oogenesis and spermatogenesis. By ensuring the proper expression of specific target genes it plays a pivotal role in reproductive organ development. Sohlh2 could form complexes with other transcription factors although further research may be needed to define such interactions comprehensively.
