Sprouty family proteins such as Spry-4 negatively regulate cell growth differentiation and angiogenesis. This protein functions as part of a negative feedback loop in growth factor-mediated signaling. By modulating signaling Spry-4 helps maintain balanced cellular responses ensuring cells do not undergo uncontrolled proliferation or differentiation. Spry-4's regulatory role is important in tissue development and repair.

Spry-4 plays a significant role in the MAPK/ERK and PI3K/AKT pathways. In these pathways Spry-4 interacts with other proteins like RAF1 and Erk.
