Immunoprecipitation - Anti-SULT2B1 antibody [007] - BSA and Azide free (AB276055)
SULT2B1 was immunoprecipitated from 0.5 mg of MCF7 (human breast adenocarcinoma cell line) whole cell lysate with 0.5 μL ab276055 and 15 μl of 50 % Protein G agarose. Western blot was performed from the immunoprecipitate using ab276055 at 1/500 dilution. Rabbit IgG (H+L) Dylight 800-labeled antibody, was used as secondary antibody at 1/5000 dilution.
Developed using the odssey technique.
Performed under reducing conditions.

Biological function summary
The role of SULT2B1 involves the sulfation of cholesterol and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) which are important for maintaining lipid homeostasis and steroid hormone biosynthesis. The enzyme is not part of a complex but works optimally in its standalone cytosolic environment. It participates actively in regulating the availability of active hormones and lipids making it a significant player in cellular metabolic processes.
Pathways
SULT2B1 operates within two main biological frameworks: the steroid hormone biosynthesis pathway and lipid metabolic pathway. In these pathways the enzyme interacts closely with cholesterol and DHEA to modulate their sulfation status influencing precursor availability for steroidogenesis. It works in conjunction with other sulfotransferases like SULT1A1 that also help manage the sulfate pool important for hormone regulation and metabolic balance.
