Activity summary

TALLA-1 also known as human T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia antigen 1 is a cell surface glycoprotein with a molecular weight of around 43 kDa. This protein is mainly expressed in T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells but not in normal mature T-cells making it a significant marker in specific pathological contexts. TALLA-1 has been studied for its role in cell adhesion and signal transduction indicating its function in cell communication and interaction.

Biological function summary

This protein plays an important role in malignant T-cell development and proliferation. Its activity influences T-cell receptor pathways which are critical in the immune response. TALLA-1 is not typically part of a larger protein complex but it interacts with other surface molecules to execute its functions particularly in aberrant T-cells.

Pathways

Studies have shown that TALLA-1 is integrated into the T-cell receptor signaling pathway and the leukemogenesis pathway. These pathways associate it with proteins such as CD3 and ZAP-70 which are essential for T-cell activation and progression of leukemogenesis. The interactions within these pathways highlight the significant role TALLA-1 plays in T-cell transformation and immune signaling.

Associated diseases and disorders

TALLA-1 is prominently linked to T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) and has been identified in cases of severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID). The protein's aberrant expression correlates with the aggressive nature of T-ALL where it serves as a biomarker for diagnosis and potential therapeutic target. Its interaction with pathways and other proteins like NOTCH1 further emphasizes its involvement in aberrant T-cell proliferative disorders.
