TB Ag85A also known as Antigen 85A is an important protein in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It has a molecular mass of approximately 30-32 kDa. TB Ag85A is part of the antigen 85 complex which consists of proteins Ag85A Ag85B and Ag85C. This protein actively participates in mycobacterial cell wall synthesis. The antigen 85 proteins (FbpA, FbpB, FbpC) are responsible for the high affinity of mycobacteria for fibronectin, a large adhesive glycoprotein, which facilitates the attachment of M.tuberculosis to murine alveolar macrophages (AMs).
