Supplementary information

TCF19 also known as SC1 is a transcription factor encoded by the TCF19 gene. The protein has an approximate molecular mass of 40 kDa. TCF19 is mostly expressed in the thymus and pancreas with lower levels found in other human tissues. It acts in regulating the expression of genes involved in cell proliferation and apoptosis by binding to specific DNA sequences. Its expression patterns suggest a role in immune system and endocrine functions particularly influencing cell activity in these organs.
Biological function summary

Transcription factor 19 regulates genes related to cell cycle control and immune response. While not part of a large protein complex TCF19 interacts with other transcription factors to modulate gene expression. Its activity suggests involvement in key processes like immune cell differentiation and pancreatic function. The role of TCF19 in these processes indicates its importance for maintaining the balance between cell growth and programmed cell death important for tissue homeostasis.

Pathways

Studies highlight the involvement of TCF19 in the cell cycle and apoptosis pathways. The protein works in conjunction with other transcription factors such as NF-kB within these pathways affecting processes of cell proliferation and survival. In the apoptosis pathway TCF19 may influence the expression of pro-apoptotic genes connecting with proteins that mediate cell death as a response to stress or damage. These interactions help maintain normal cellular turnover and immune responses.

Abnormal TCF19 expression links to certain conditions such as type 1 diabetes and cancer. In type 1 diabetes TCF19 dysregulation might affect pancreatic beta cells and immune tolerance possibly altering interactions with insulin-related proteins like insulin receptor substrates. In cancer TCF19 may influence tumor progression through deregulation of apoptotic pathways associating with oncogenic proteins like MYC. These insights into TCF19's role provide potential therapeutic targets for related diseases.
