TINAGL1 also known as Tubulointerstitial Nephritis Antigen Like 1 is an extracellular matrix protein with an approximate mass of 52 kDa. The protein also referred to as TIN-ag localizes primarily in kidney tissues but presents in other tissues like the lung and heart. It associates in the basement membranes of these tissues playing a significant mechanical role in structural integrity and cellular frameworks.
Biological function summary

TINAGL1 facilitates protein interactions that modulate cellular adhesion and migration. It does not belong to any known larger protein complexes but still plays an essential role in maintaining cellular structures. Furthermore TINAGL1 contributes to processes such as angiogenesis and tumor suppression through its interaction with matrix proteins and signaling receptors.

Pathways

TINAGL1 engages in important signaling cascades including the integrin-mediated pathway and the PI3K/Akt pathway. Within these pathways TINAGL1's function closely ties to integrins a group of proteins pivotal for cell adhesion and signal transduction. The protein works alongside fibronectin and collagen establishing pivotal communication for cellular responses to environmental cues.

TINAGL1 involvement extends to certain renal conditions and cancer types. Specifically in kidney diseases like glomerulonephritis TINAGL1 interaction with nephronectin may influence disease progression. In cancer it associates with various oncogenes offering potential as a tumor suppressor in breast cancer where it interacts with proteins like laminin. Such relationships highlight TINAGL1's potential as a target for developing novel therapeutic strategies.
