Tm9sf3 plays a significant role in vesicular trafficking and membrane organization. This protein contributes to critical biological processes by facilitating transport and communication between cellular compartments. Tm9sf3 often functions as a part of a larger protein complex interacting dynamically with other membrane-associated proteins to execute these roles efficiently.
The Tm9sf3 protein also known as Tumor Protein Transmembrane 9 Superfamily Member 3 is a transmembrane protein with a mass of approximately 77 kDa. It primarily locates within the membrane compartments of cells and is expressed in various tissues including prostate tissue and several other organs. Although detailed expression profiles in specific tissues such as marmosets require further investigation current data highlights its relevance in cellular processes.
The protein engages notably in intracellular signaling processes. Tm9sf3 is involved in the regulation of the endocytic and exocytic pathways where it cooperates closely with well-known proteins such as Rab GTPases. These GTPases act as molecular switches that mediate vesicle movement and fusion within cells establishing a functional link that Tm9sf3 supports within these pathways.
Tm9sf3 has been implicated in cancerous transformations and immune system dysregulations. Specifically studies suggest a connection between Tm9sf3 and various forms of cancer including those affecting prostate tissue. Through these conditions Tm9sf3 interacts with other proteins like tumor suppression genes and immune regulators that influence the development and progression of these diseases. Understanding its precise role in such contexts is ongoing but could offer insights into potential therapeutic targets.
