The protein TPD52L2 also known as Tumor Protein D52-like 2 and PrLZ plays a role in intracellular transport and secretion by interacting with membranes and acting as a vesicle-associated protein. It has a molecular weight of approximately 24 kDa. TPD52L2 gets highly expressed in several tissues including pancreas prostate and hematopoietic system. Moreover TPD52L2 localizes in cytoplasm and associates with secretory granules and lysosomal membranes.
TPD52L2 contributes to processes such as cell proliferation and survival. It is associated with the regulation of exocytosis because of its presence in vesicles. TPD52L2 forms part of a broader protein family with conserved coiled-coil domains suggesting a capacity for protein-protein interactions. This family can affect the organization and dynamics of the cytoskeleton which is important for cytokinesis and endocytosis.
TPD52L2 interacts directly with cellular communication and transport pathways. It is known to participate in the tumorigenesis pathway by modulating cell growth and apoptosis. The protein has interactions with key components such as PKB/AKT an important player in signaling cascades that regulate cell survival and metabolism. As a part of these pathways TPD52L2 may contribute to oncogenic transformation.
TPD52L2 has implications in cancer and metabolic disorders. Elevated levels of TPD52L2 have been linked to prostate cancer development where it interacts with proteins like FAK which are important for cancer cell migration and spread. Additionally altered expression of TPD52L2 could impact insulin signaling pathways contributing to conditions such as diabetes. Here its association with IRS proteins further illustrates the impact TPD52L2 may have within these pathologies.
