Supplementary information

TRP 7 also known as Transient Receptor Potential Channel 7 is a mechanically gated ion channel of the TRP family. It has a molecular mass of approximately 90 kDa. You find TRP 7 predominantly in tissues like the brain and heart where it participates in calcium signaling. It functions as a receptor that allows ions to flow across the cell membrane in response to mechanical stress or temperature changes modulating cellular excitability and signal transduction.
Biological function summary

This protein plays a critical role in the regulation of calcium ion concentrations within the cell. TRP 7 often integrates into larger protein complexes that aid in cellular response to environmental stimuli. These complexes impact processes like muscle contraction nerve transmission and hormone secretion. Its function in maintaining ion balance makes it integral to both physiological stability and adaptive processes.

Pathways

TRP 7 integrates into calcium signaling pathways where it interacts with proteins such as calmodulin and protein kinase. This protein is also part of the mechanotransduction pathway impacting how cells react to mechanical forces. TRP 7 has associations with other TRP family members contributing to its broad regulatory roles in cellular homeostasis and adaptation.

Research indicates TRP 7 associates with cardiomyopathy and neuropathic pain. Changes in its expression or function can lead to abnormal calcium signaling contributing to these conditions. In cardiomyopathy its interaction with proteins like calcineurin affects cardiac function while in neuropathic pain changes in TRP 7 can alter nerve sensitivity and pain perception pathways. Understanding TRP 7's role provides insights into potential therapeutic targets for these conditions.

Target data

Forms a receptor-activated non-selective calcium permeant cation channel. Probably is operated by a phosphatidylinositol second messenger system activated by receptor tyrosine kinases or G-protein coupled receptors. Activated by diacylglycerol (DAG) (By similarity). May also be activated by intracellular calcium store depletion.
