Biological function summary
TRPML3 plays an important role in the maintenance of lysosomal ion homeostasis and cellular signaling. It is an integral part of lysosomal membranes and contributes to the regulation of lysosomal trafficking. This channel is involved in the regulation of intracellular calcium levels and phosphoinositide metabolism. TRPML3 functions individually but may also interact with other members of the TRP channel family contributing to its functional and biological diversity.
Pathways
TRPML3 is involved in the lysosome-related pathways which include autophagy and endo-lysosomal trafficking. These processes are critical for cellular homeostasis recycling of cellular materials and response to stress. TRPML3 shows a functional connection with other TRP channels such as TRPML1 and TRPML2 in these pathways. It is also associated with the phosphoinositide metabolic pathway influencing diverse cellular activities such as membrane trafficking and signal transduction.
