TSPAN11 also known as tetraspanin-11 is a member of the tetraspanin family a group of proteins characterized by four transmembrane domains. TSPAN11 has a molecular mass of approximately 24 kDa. It is expressed in various tissue types including lung kidney and immune cells. TSPAN11 proteins usually have essential roles in cellular processes through interactions with other transmembrane proteins and components of the cell membrane.
TSPAN11 participates actively in cell adhesion migration and proliferation. It is part of the tetraspanin web a complex arrangement of proteins on the cell surface. Tetraspanins like TSPAN11 facilitate the organization of molecular complexes known as tetraspanin-enriched microdomains (TEMs). These microdomains help regulate intracellular signaling pathways that are important for cellular events.
TSPAN11 influences cellular processes by engaging in the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. It interacts with proteins such as integrins to mediate cell adhesion and migration. TSPAN11 also associates with proteins within the EGFR signaling pathway aiding in the modulation of cellular proliferation and survival. These interactions highlight TSPAN11's role in maintaining cellular function and response to external stimuli.
TSPAN11 links to certain cancers and immune-related diseases. Aberrant expression or dysfunction of TSPAN11 affects cell migration and adhesion contributing to cancer metastasis. It has connections with other proteins like integrin involved in these processes. Additionally TSPAN11 may play a role in autoimmune diseases by affecting immune cell functions interacting with proteins that regulate immune responses and inflammation.
