Biological function summary
The process involving UBA3 relates to protein modification primarily through neddylation. UBA3 couples with the protein NAE1 to form the NEDD8 activating enzyme complex. This enzyme complex activates NEDD8 a ubiquitin-like protein that modifies cullin-based E3 ligases influencing their function. By modifying these E3 ligases UBA3 controls various cellular processes including cell cycle progression and signal transduction ensuring proper cell function and adaptation to environmental cues.
Pathways
UBA3 is integral to the NEDD8 conjugation pathway influencing cell cycle and transcriptional regulation. It interacts with proteins such as cullin 1 and cullin 3 within this pathway. By activating NEDD8 UBA3 facilitates cullin-RING ubiquitin ligase complexes which play significant roles in the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway. This interaction controls protein degradation a vital process for maintaining protein homeostasis and preventing cellular dysfunction.
