Supplementary information

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

UBAP2 also known as Ubiquitin-Associated Protein 2 plays a role in cellular processes by interacting with ubiquitin-related pathways. It has a mass of approximately 115 kDa. This protein functions mainly in the cytoplasm but is also present in the nucleus in certain cell types. UBAP2 expression occurs in a wide range of tissues with higher levels observed in immune cells such as lymphocytes.
Biological function summary

UBAP2 interacts with components of the endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) machinery. This interaction suggests a role in vesicle trafficking and membrane dynamics. UBAP2 has not been reported as part of a complex but might work closely with other ubiquitin-interacting proteins to regulate endocytic processes. It may assist in sorting endocytosed proteins for degradation or recycling.

Pathways

UBAP2 takes part in ubiquitin-mediated processes and is linked to the intracellular trafficking pathway. Its interaction with the ESCRT machinery indicates participation in endosomal and lysosomal pathways. Related proteins include ubiquitin and TSG101 which are involved in coordinating the sorting and transport of proteins through the endosomal system.

Researchers investigate UBAP2 for its potential link to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and certain cancers. Studies propose that altered ubiquitin pathways may contribute to these conditions implicating proteins like TSG101. Alterations in UBAP2 function might therefore disrupt normal cellular processes contributing to disease progression and pathology.

Target data

Recruits the ubiquitination machinery to RNA polymerase II for polyubiquitination, removal and degradation, when the transcription-coupled nucleotide excision repair (TC-NER) machinery fails to resolve DNA damage (PubMed : 35633597). May promote the degradation of ANXA2 (PubMed : 27121050).
